New 3rd Edition

Healing the Wounds of Childhood

Healing the Wounds of Childhood describes the six-stage process of recovery for survivors from multiple kinds of childhood trauma. It serves as a practical guide for adult children from dysfunctional families choosing to confront and constructively deal with the pain of the past.

Drawing from case studies, 12-Step Program and rehabilitation literature, as well as from his own personal experiences, author Dennis McGuire illustrates the possible pitfalls and routine disappointments, as well as the positive small victories and meaningful self-discoveries that occur at each stage of recovery as part of a process that leads to full healing within.

Reviews

“This book focuses on the recovery process rather than on staying stuck in the problem. If you are looking for a recovery guide, this might be just the book for you. I recommend it!”

Five Stars. “Already started the healing process with an excellent counsellor, but working with the book has been an added help when my counsellor is away. Certainly the book does not recommend working through unless you have professional help. My mother is becoming a monster of my past, not overshadowing my future.”

About the Author

Dennis J. McGuire

Eight decades ago I was born into a Catholic alcoholic family in Chicago.

After twenty-eight years of Catholic grade school, high school, college and service in a religious community I ventured out into the world. This proved to be quite a painful journey as I managed to earn a PhD at The Ohio State University, an MBA at Syracuse University and a personal bankruptcy at the school of hard knocks.

At the age of fifty my dear wife of sixteen years and I decided to go our separate ways. I had begun to realize that the personal misery I lived with was due to the abuse and neglect typical of alcoholic families and the disregard of individual needs favored by religions.

My research skills helped me find a path to full recovery. With the help of many fellow sufferers in support groups and personal therapy I have succeeded in achieving the self-actualization I always desired. It is now my mission in life to share with others that which I know works to get out of the rut of misery and on the path to self-actualization.
